(Nokia) Lumia Moneypenny to have 854x 480 screen resolution

evLeaks today posted a new screenshot of the upcoming Lumia Moneypenny. According to @Nawzil68 the Moneypenny range of devices will include  the  Lumia 630 (Dual-SIM) and 635 (Single-SIM) and may not have the Nokia branding anymore.

Anyways, the screenshot by evLeaks (which is probably one of the 635 because it doesn’t sport two SIMs) shows another interesting feature: Since Asphalt 8 is pinned to the start screen it should be a 1 GB RAM device. Also with the new generation of processors it is also likely the device will have at least a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor (speculation only).

Since the resolution of the screenshot is 854×480 the virtual buttons on the bottom of the screen are not wasting any space; the resolution is being expanded so the buttons do not cut off parts of the regular screen.
I am personally not very excited about the device itself, but we have been surprised before by what turned out to be unlikely hits

So,What do you say?

Lumia 920 gets Jailbroken by Chinese hackers

All of us might have heard the use of term “Jailbreak” a lot in case of iOS, Android is all the way more modifiable where as Windows Phone is known for its security features that are hard nut to crack for hackers.

Chinese security company Silenstd claims to have been notified of a jailbreak for the Nokia Lumia 920, and have posted the video as proof.

The hack by POANDSOUL is apparently with the main of creating a Cydia-like app store in WP platform and not to encourage piracy, but if true this is of course an inevitable consequence.

The hack apparently works via the micro-USB port, and does not require any physical modification to the device.

The instructions for the jailbreak has not been release yet, but the video does show several settings being changed on the Lumia 920, including the 3 column start screen, leaving little doubt it is real.

Nokia explains how commutation prevented sale loss when the Nokia/Microsoft deal was announced

This year was mixed for Nokia. From the launching for successful Lumia series to the selling of Nokia's business to Microsoft. Nokia survived many blows this year. Yesterday speaking to The Times of India, Nokia explained how it avoided sales loss when the deal was announced on 2nd September.

"(Nokia's) Stephen Elop and (Microsoft's) Steve Ballmer's communication on how it was a win-win deal for both the companies and how we all had to continue focusing on our work was very clear. We were told the exact position in as many words and given a set of dos and don'ts," P Balaji, Nokia's India head told ET.

Breaking his silence on how Nokia's employees and partners took to the $7.2-billion deal news, Balaji said it was a critical moment for the entire team but the anxiety among employees and partners that logically followed the announcement was soon put to rest. "We were told that the likely regulatory approvals would come in the following quarters into 2014, and among the 'don'ts', we had been asked to not start to think too much ahead of the time and to continue working as two separate units until the approvals came in," he said. The companies expect the deal to close in the first quarter of 2014.

"There was no mixing up, and no, thankfully no confusion," Balaji said. The company spent the following days on reaching out to its partners. 'We reached out to our partners — over 400 in distribution and close to 5,000 partners — and explained the details of the deal and how it was only for the better," Balaji said, explaining how the company was able to allay concerns and ensure handset sales weren't hurt by the news.

Himanshu Chakravarti, chief executive of The Mobile Store, India's largest modern trade mobile phone seller, separately said he saw the announcement early morning, and soon after, received a call from the top management of Nokia India to explain to him the contours of the deal and how supply won't be affected at all. "I was satisfied."

Nokia has long slipped from its leadership position in the Indian market, as global rivals Samsung, Apple and Sony and home grown players such as Micromax sped past it. However, piggybacking on its Lumia range of phones, Nokia's sales have picked up in recent times. It managed to retain its market share in the July-September period after witnessing a sharp fall in the fourth quarter last year, according to IDC.

Vipul Mehrotra, a 16-year veteran at Nokia and currently the company's director and head of smart devices for India, Middle East and Africa, described the Microsoft deal as "an emotional moment".

"I was at Riyadh and a day before the announcement, the news was broken to us. I had to meet a team from Microsoft the next day and my mind was flooded with a number of questions, especially on how I would explain this to my team," Mehrotra said.

"In the next six weeks we were able to ensure that there was no loss of sales," he said. He added that both companies continue to function as two separate independent units until the integration is complete. An impediment to the smooth integration of the two companies in India was removed when the Delhi High Court last week allowed Nokia to sell its Chennai factory to Microsoft, asking income-tax authorities to revoke the freeze on the handset maker's assets.

A new BugSense client has arrived for WP8 devices

It has been a good app year for Windows Phone users as well as for the developers who do hard work to develop apps for the users. As Christmas is about to come, Bug Sense a website for developers to troubleshoot the mobile apps, has got a mobile client called Bugsensitive.
There is a requirement before you get started with Bugsensitive - you'll need a BugSense API. Once you've registered with the service and have the API token, you're good to go.

Bugsensitive itself acts just as you'd imagine. You fire up the app on your Windows Phone, enter your API token to sign in and all your projects will be displayed for access. From there you'll be able to see bug reports, insights and details to give you an idea as to where you've gone wrong and how you can work to reduce the number of issues in the app. Live Tiles are supported, displaying how many errors have been caught since you last ran the app. With yet another way to monitor published work, we're sure developers will dig the features and connectivity to BugSense.

If you have feedback for developers behind this app or you have some ideas for new features then you can contact them via, their Website or Twitter profile.

Meanwhile head to the store and Download this app.

Tip: Help the Nokia MixRadio developers through User Voice..

MixRadio

It wasn’t too long ago that Nokia rebranded their Nokia Music service to a more hip MixRadio on Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. The new emphasis on mixes and likes/dislikes has triggered many to reconsider the burgeoning service as an alternative to Pandora or Spotify. Plus, that new design is really eye catching.
Still, Nokia MixRadio is a work in progress and if there’s one thing Nokia likes it’s your user feedback. That’s why they have set up an official User Voice forum where you can share ideas, tell them about bugs and ask for new features. Microsoft has one of those for Windows Phone and it’s a super tool to gauge interest since people can vote for features that they want.
Of course, they would prefer if you don’t ask for things that are already patented or involve copyrighted material, so don’t be surprised if that Spotify feature you want can’t be added. But there’s plenty of little things that the Nokia MixRadio team can do, so let them know so that they can deliver the app and service you want.
Head to the site to get started: nokiamixradio.uservoice.com. What do you think of MixRadio so far and what would you change?
Don’t have MixRadio yet? Grab it for your Lumia Windows Phone 8 device here or pick up the Windows 8 version with this link.

Windows Phone 8.1 – App list sorting and actionable notifications revealed in alleged screenshots

New screenshots reveal more on the Notification Center, actionable notifications and a Battery percentage option in Windows Phone 8.1

Windows Phone 8.1 Blue

More information is coming forward regarding the forthcoming Windows Phone 8.1. This time, alleged screenshots from build 8.10.12166.0 were posted in the Windows Phone Central forums by user qXerro. Although we have not verified the screenshots (they can be easily faked), we can confirm that the information revealed by them is accurate for the upcoming Windows Phone overhaul due early next year. In fact, the grammar error suggests they are re-created.
In three screen captures, posted below, we can see more detail about the Notification center and sortable items in the App list in addition to a new battery display option.
Windows Phone 8.1 Blue
The Facebook notifications have not be verified, but app list sorting is accurate
In Windows 8.1, currently in preview edition, users should be familiar with the sorting option in the App list. Users can organize the list by name, frequency of use, category or date installed. Windows Phone Central has learned some time ago that this feature will also be present in Windows Phone 8.1, finally offering end users the ability to better control menu organization.  (We should also caution that we heard there were problems with it, so it may not make it to the final build.) By tapping the double-arrow in the upper right hand corner, users can select from those options listed above and this is reflected in these leaked screenshots.
The other new feature is actionable notifications. This will be a new enhancement to the current Toast notifications (i.e. pop up) that users are familiar with and it will be open to developers with the new 8.1 SDK. Once again, it will mirror Windows 8.1 and the Skype example, where users can answer the call with or without video or ignore, all from the Toast notification. The same will be in Windows Phone 8.1 where you can for example directly respond to a text message without having to launch the app. This can be seen above with the Facebook message.
We can also reiterate the news about 'ghost notifications' for the Notification Center, which Windows Phone Central first reported on a few days ago. These will not be Toast notifications but instead will go directly to the Notification Center so as to not constantly bother end-users. This option will be available to developers via the SDK and should give Windows Phone a superior notification system.
Windows Phone 8.1 Blue battery
The third and final new tidbit reveals a “Show Battery percentage” option under the Battery settings. This will allow users to see the exact percentage of battery in the Task bar next to the battery icon.
Other information revealed but not verified is that the OS will be announced in January with the SDK due in February, most likely at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The poster of the screenshots, qXerro, has noted that this current build has poor Wi-Fi and that the settings app crashes randomly, reminding us that Microsoft still has some work to do.
Windows Phone Central cannot maintain if the actual screenshots are real though (they could be re-creations) but we stand by the information revealed here. Of course, features can be added and removed during the process so more changes may be forthcoming.
